Creativity: Thankful for God’s Spirit

Everyone is creative whether they believe it or not.

We are made in God’s image; He creates and so do we. It’s time to step-up and stand in who we are made to be, and a big part of that is to exercise our creativity. First, we need to understand it.

Creativity is defined on Wikipedia as: a phenomenon whereby something new and somehow valuable is formed. The created item may be intangible (such as an idea, a scientific theory, a musical composition, or a joke) or a physical object (such as an invention, a literary work, or a painting).

A phenomenon. What a great word to use for the Creative Spirit. When we engage in creativity we are healed, we are informed, we are enlightened, we escape into all the devil hates about humanity. We find solutions for all manner of life’s problems and we learn to love from God’s perspective. Yes, creativity can do all of that.

We must understand that artists aren’t the only creative people on the planet. They have talents and skills focused on art industries, but they are not alone. Mothers and fathers are creative in parenting, Mechanics are creative in building, pilots are creative in flying, chefs are creative in cooking, doctors are creative in healing, and list goes on. As a matter of fact, you are creative too.

Let’s look at what the Bible says about craftsmen. In Exodus chapters 28-36 God is giving direction for the creation of the tabernacle where He specifically names the craftsmen with gifts to design the finer details. Here are a few verses in the New Living Translation:

Exodus 28:3 (NLT)

Instruct all the skilled craftsmen whom I have filled with the spirit of wisdom. Have them make garments for Aaron that will distinguish him as a priest set apart for my service.

Exodus 31:6 (NLT)

“And I have personally appointed Oholiab son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan, to be his assistant. Moreover, I have given special skill to all the gifted craftsmen so they can make all the things I have commanded you to make:

Exodus 36:1 (NLT)

“The Lord has gifted Bezalel, Oholiab, and the other skilled craftsmen with wisdom and ability to perform any task involved in building the sanctuary. Let them construct and furnish the Tabernacle, just as the Lord has commanded.”

People who are created to be artists can be architects, chefs, painters, designers, game developers, deejays, and various other craftsmen. From Scripture we can see they are special to God and made special by Him. Again, every human being is creative, artisans merely have a different call and are set aside to create on a different level for God’s Kingdom.

Artists are created to give visual examples to the rest of humanity of God’s love for them and their love for Him. They are made to show the love of people for each other through various art and design forms. Art displays the beauty of God’s creation, is a form of worship and is a sweet fragrance to Heaven.

There’s a catch… Craftsmen, artisans are also capable of creating idols and other abominations people can worship instead of the one true God, our Father. Here is some of God’s Word in the Amplified Bible to study regarding using creativity for death instead of life:

Psalm 115:5-8 (NLT)

They idolize what they own and what they make with their hands, but their things can’t talk to them or answer their prayers. Their possessions will never satisfy. Their futile faith in dead idols and dead works can never bring life or meaning to their souls. Blind men can only create blind things. Those deaf to God can only make a deaf image. Dead men can only create dead idols. And everyone who trusts in these powerless, dead things will be just like what they worship—powerless and dead.

Romans 12:3 (AMP)

[Your Proper Role in the Body of Christ] God has given me grace to speak a warning about pride. I would ask each of you to be emptied of self-promotion and not create a false image of your importance. Instead, honestly assess your worth by using your God-given faith as the standard of measurement, and then you will see your true value with an appropriate self-esteem.

Therefore, artists and art industries are often attacked and controlled by satan for generations. As a creative, I can say emphatically, it’s true and not fun.

There is hope

Hebrews 4:13 (NLT)

There is not one person who can hide their thoughts from God, for nothing that we do remains a secret, and nothing created is concealed, but everything is exposed and defenseless before his eyes, to whom we must render an account.

Proverbs 10:8 (NLT)

The heart of the wise will easily accept instruction. But those who do all the talking are too busy to listen and learn. They’ll just keep stumbling ahead into the mess they created.

Whatever is created for evil will be uncovered as such no matter who creates it. The key is to use creativity, whether you call yourself and artist or not, to enrich your life and the lives of those around you for the Kingdom of God.

Holy Spirit is always available to help you with being creative. The next time you have a problem that needs to be solved; a project that needs to be done; a party that needs to be planned; or a gift that needs giving, ask Holy Spirit to help you and you will be amazed at the results.

Here’s a secret: God creates by His Word, so speak out a godly solution to your problem; use your sanctified and righteous imagination to create things as though they are. Add in a little faith, and miracles will happen.

2 Peter 3:5 (NLT)

But they conveniently overlook that from the beginning, the heavens and earth were created by God’s word. He spoke and the dry ground separated from the waters.

Romans 4:17 (NLT)

That is what the Scriptures mean when God told him, “I have made you the father of many nations.” This happened because Abraham believed in the God who brings the dead back to life and who creates new things out of nothing.

Prayer for Creativity & Imagination

Father God, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit I repent for believing that I am not creative and for using creativity and my imagination for ungodly endeavors. Thank You for forgiving me. I ask that You sanctify my creative abilities and imagination for righteousness applied strictly to Your Kingdom here on earth. Thank You for making me human and for loving me so much. In the Mighty Name of Your Son, Jesus, I pray. Amen.
