The Secret Place With Jesus

Psalm 91:1 KJV – 1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

Psalm 91:1-16 KJV – 1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say of the LORD, [He is] my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. 3 Surely, he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, [and] from the noisome pestilence. 4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth [shall be thy] shield and buckler. 5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; [nor] for the arrow [that] flieth by day; 6 [Nor] for the pestilence [that] walketh in darkness; [nor] for the destruction [that] wasteth at noonday. 7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; [but] it shall not come nigh thee. 8 Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked. 9 Because thou hast made the LORD, [which is] my refuge, [even] the Most High, thy habitation; 10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. 11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. 12 They shall bear thee up in [their] hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. 13 Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet. 14 Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. 15 He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I [will be] with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honour him. 16 With long life will I satisfy him and shew him my salvation.

The secret place with Jesus is an intimate relationship where we learn to live. We are always searching for something whether it is consciously or subconsciously. We have a God hole in our heart that is searching to be filled with Him. God draws us to Himself. He loves us. The things that get in the way are those things that are not of Him. They can be close but not Him. They will only last for a short time and then we find we are not fulfilled.

In the above verses, we see that abiding in Him will keep us from the evils of the world. This is just one of an innumerable ways Jesus encounters us and helps us. His deepest desire is to have a daily and forever relationship with us. The intimacy is the relationship where we can drop the guards on our heart. Our innermost relationship with Jesus is where He makes himself known to us in a real way. We can tell Jesus anything. He reciprocates and places love in the parts of our heart that is in need of His love. He responds and addresses our fears, needs and wants. And much more.

Jesus wants to introduce us to His Kingdom. The Kingdom is His way of life. Jesus will come to rule and reign, and we need to be ready to know His ways. We have long misunderstood how Jesus actually would have us live in His Kingdom. His Kingdom is not a religion. If you read the Bible with the lens of the Kingdom of God, we find that God continually pursued the people to have relationship with Him.

I will post a few scriptures that talks about abiding. Jesus is very interested that we abide with Him. We are His children, and He draws us to himself. The struggle with receiving His love has to do with our misunderstanding of the relationship with Him. He is not a mean God or any other negative thing. He is madly in love with us. He sent His only Son (Jesus) to redeem us to belong to the Family of God. Jesus is the rescue operation for all of humanity.

Here are some scriptures that illustrate His desire to be with us. Abiding is staying, remaining, continuing, constant and dwelling. The book of John, chapters 14-17 are very beneficial.

John 15:4, 7, 9-10 ESV –

4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. …

7 If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. …

9 As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love. 10 If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love.

John 17:26 ESV – 26 I made known to them your name, and I will continue to make it known, that the love with which you have loved me may be in them, and I in them.”

For your daily meditations and prayer, I suggest the following for abiding: 1) Find a comfortable place to commune with the Lord. 2) Make sure it is quiet and no distractions. 3)Keep a prayer journal. 4) Make sure you date it for future reference. 5) He knows your thoughts. Do not be afraid to ask anything or give Him all your cares. 6) Listen for His voice during the day. He often talks to us in the midst of our days. Even at our busiest time of day. Do not be surprised. 7) Read your Bible. That is another place we learn who He really is. 8) Ask the Holy Spirit for understanding. 9) Making choices daily to stay close to Jesus (according to His word) keep us in the position of abiding.
